Silver Puck Challenge XIII was an amazing two weeks. We had a great time playing hockey, hanging out together and celebrating the Rooster!!! We did not have any repeat champions this year once again. In the B+ Denny McLean's REDDOGS B+ would take the title, Torque would return the winner's circle in the B, VanKam would walk through the C Bracket, Denny McLean's REDDOGS JEMC would take the JEMC and last but not least, VanDam would win the inaugural trophy in Rooster Cup (COED). You can get a complete breakdown in our Archives for SPCXIII.

We now move forward and get ready for Silver Puck Challenge XIV at Patterson Ice Center. We will be making a few changes for our fourteenth show. We will be expanding some brackets, refining the AEA Salary Cap and moving stronger teams into more appropriate brackets.

It's hard to put into words how specials these weekends are. Over the course of two weekends I heard and seen countless acts of kindness, thanks yous, words of endearment, and appreciation . . . I don't take "Thank Yous" very well, never have, but these last two weeks have really made me feel special. Sitting here now, I grin cheekily.

One thing that really stood out this weekend was someone said . . . "The Silver Puck Challenge, doesn't happen without your efforts." . . . Let me say this to you . . . The Silver Puck Challenge doesn't happen without all of YOU. The SPC is bigger than any one individual. The SPC is a special fraternity built of the best hockey community in the world . . . and the SPC is not a hockey tournament . . . it's a homecoming of a community of friends and family, that just happen to all play hockey.

I personally want to give thanks to all the captains that put teams, I know it's not easy, I know the leg work you put in to fill those rosters. The AEA Salary Cap was a new twist . . . and for the most part it looked like when it was applied it was a huge success. Thank you for working with it, building those teams and being a part of the SPC Show.

I want to say thank you to all of my sponsors that truly help make this event successful . . . Please look them up, visit their establishments and give them the business they deserve. Thank you to Cascade Brann's, Kings Room Barbershop, EB Coffee & Pub, New Salem Corn Maze, Grand Traverse Distillery, David Warsen Legacy, Cosmic Candy, LifeEMS, Tin Can Bar, On Your Game, MerchLIVE, For the Kidz, Hyde Construction, Pretty Gardens & VET Sports. We all truly appreciate you being a part of the SPC family. The full list of logos and links can be found at the bottom of the page.

I want to give a personal thank you to Tom Mehney, Kevin Wood, Jayne Gilmer and all the staff at Patterson Ice Center. You all go above and beyond to make our tournament the best show in west Michigan. Your facility provides the perfect home for our annual event. 13 years later and cannot tell you enough how grateful I am for you to open your doors to our SPC family

Thank you to Charles Frederick Ely III for all the work he does to bring in the best officials in town. It's not an easy job, these guys aren't perfect, but neither are we. They're committed to the event and are just as a big part of the tournament and hockey family. Thank you for the great communication, follow through and dedication. Your officials always makes this weekend a huge success.

Thank you to Josie Sundberg, you always have a great scorekeepers staff, and help enforce the decisions made by the officials, your support and commitment to the SPC is greatly appreciated. You keep me in the loop and make sure the right information in always presented. Thank you so much.

Thank you to all the significant others, including my personal beautiful assistant . . . Beth Parbel. The SPC can be a sacrifice to those that are in relationships with those that play year after year. It can't be easy to let your amazing second halves come out for these weekends. I thank you for the help around the rink, trust to let me take care of your loved ones, and let them come home to their hockey family.

Finally, this year's SPC was truly a gift to be a part of. These last two weekends were dedicated to one of the great icons of the Silver Puck Challenge and the hockey community of MICHIGAN . . . David "Rooster" Rue. I believe we made him proud this weekend. I know he was smiling down and saying this is my HOCKEY FAMILY. Thank You Kelsey DeJonge, Kennidi Ann Rue & Kegan Rue for letting the SPC celebrate your father this weekend. I'm sure Jammin' John English and your father were sharing stories themselves this weekend . . . Man, what it would be like to be a fly on that wall.

With all of this being said . . . the doors of Silver Puck Challenge XIII are closed . . . we step forward, grabbing a new set of handles once again and open a new door . . . the door known as Silver Puck Challenge XIV . . . THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH. I LOVE YOU.

" I give you 5 stars - The pond hockey was great and so is the Silver Puck. You really pull it all together. "
